Pilates
Class Overview
Our studio has proudly graduated classes of trainers who demonstrate our specialized approach focused on balanced, sustainable, whole-body fitness. Our trainers concentrate on the Pilates principles which include breathing, elongation, core stability, alignment, spinal articulation, concentration and quality of movement.
Certified instructors with decades of expertise teach foundations, modifications, and best practices. Our trainers' higher education gives them the knowledge to keep our clients safe in class. They get to know individual health issues before clients come to class and modify as needed.
Unless otherwise noted, all classes are 50 minutes. See the ‘Class Descriptions’ section below for more details.
Benefits of Pilates
Pilates workouts go beyond the here and now—they build the foundation for a lifetime of strength, balance, and resilience. Pilates strengthens your core by improving posture and supporting your back, increases flexibility and mobility, and enhances the mind-body connection to help reduce stress and improve focus.

Class Descriptions
Pilates Principles
The Intro class is the building block to your Pilates experience. We concentrate on teaching Pilates principles, safety, and how to use the Reformer, Tower, and Mat. It is important to understand the basic exercises and how our equipment works before moving up a level. Intro exercises include Pelvic Clocks, Bridging, Feet in Straps, Roll Up, Dart, Elephant, and more. We have a check-off process to move up a class level. To move from Intro class to Reformer 1, tell your instructor that you'd like to start the check-off process before class. We ask that everyone start with the Intro class even if they've had Pilates Reformer experience.
Reformer 1
Reformer 1 builds off Principles classes from basic exercises to more challenging ones like Teaser, Side Ups, Double Leg Kick, Long Stretch, Hundreds, Spread Eagle, and more. We continue with the principles and get more in-depth with exercises that utilize internal strength. Please tell your Reformer 1 instructor before class if you want to check off to level 2.
Reformer 2
Reformer 2 is another challenging step in your Pilates journey. This class will strengthen, lengthen and challenge your core like no other workout. Reformer 2 includes exercises like Magician, Short Spine, Long Spine, Gymnast, Semi Circle and more. You will have a new appreciation for how strong your body can perform.
Pilates Therapy
If you have any aches and pains in a Reformer class and want to be watched closely to know how to improve what you do in classes, or if you need to know which exercises you might want to avoid then try this class with our therapists and trainers to help you get on your way to pain-free exercise. This class is also great for many issues like Osteoporosis, knee issues or replacements, hip issues or replacements, shoulder problems, back problems and more.
Mix It Up 1.5
Mix It Up 1.5 will be a creative class utilizing all equipment and props too. It will challenge your strength and stability, with good pace. The difference between this level and R2 level is less spinal motion and more use of props and all equipment. One step up from level one and lots of fun!!
JumpBoard
The jump board is a piece of equipment that attaches to the Reformer for more of a cardio-focused workout. It's great for leg and ab strength and we intersperse Pilates and Chair exercises between jump sessions for a circuit type workout on the equipment. Great for an upper level 1 client and above. Join us for jumping!
A Note on Konnectors
All of the Reformers at Pilates MN are adapted with Konnectors, an innovative, single-rope pulley system with loops for all four limbs. Read more about the benefits of this innovative Konnector system.
